Brandywine River Museum

On our last Tuesday there, we went on our last little outing with Eileen. She worked the rest of the days we were there. She really enjoys art and visiting museums. We had planned to go to at least one museum this summer, so we went to the Brandywine River Museum. We took a tour of N.C. Wyeth's House and Studio. I hadn't heard of him before, but apparently, he was a big shot in American illustrations. He illustrated a lot of paintings for classic books like Treasure Island, Robin Hood, Robinson Crusoe and The Last of the Mohicans.

View from his front porch that inspired a lot of his paintings
My favorite part of the house tour was hearing about how all of his kids picked up drawing and painting, too. I love seeing how passions and talents are passed along in families. I think it reflects the strong bonds between family members, specifically in this case, from father to daughter and son.

My favorite part of both tours though was the studio. It was huge. There was a section that was for painting murals. I think that's what impressed me the most. It was such a large room. All throughout the studio, there were large windows allowing as much natural light as possible to come through. He also had an extension built so that his kids could have their own studio.

After our tour was over, we headed to galleries. Blaine couldn't understand why I like modern and impressionistic art and was just rambling on how there is no skill to it and blah blah blah. Then again, he hasn't studied much of art at all. I just let him express his opinions and tried convincing him that he really can't replicate works by Degas, Monet, Morisot, Cassat, Renoir or van Gogh. We don't agree on what we think are the coolest or nicest paintings, but it was fun to see what he thought about art. Apparently, he does have some appreciation and preferences to art. Who would've known? (Thank you Eileen for taking us!)

In the gallery
I think Blaine had a good time, even though it was something he probably wasn't excited to do. It's funny how by doing different things together, we learn more about each other. We're actually going to see an exhibit at the MOA tonight that our friend Nina worked on during her internship. It's on Andy Warhol and Takashi Murakami. I'm so excited! Hopefully this will help him see how cool contemporary art really is :)
